Optimizing Traffic Signal Control: Intelligent Solutions Based on Radar Technology
As the “intelligent hub” of urban roads, the efficiency of traffic signal control directly impacts the smoothness of city traffic. Scientifically optimizing signal control strategies has become a key method to alleviate urban traffic congestion. Traditional inductive signal control systems primarily rely on road vehicle detectors to collect data and dynamically adjust based solely on motor vehicle flow, which has significant limitations. In practice, this model often neglects pedestrian needs, leading to uneven resource allocation at intersections and frequent inefficiencies such as vehicle-pedestrian conflicts and wasted green-light phases.
Radar Technology-Driven Intelligent Signal Optimization Solution
To address the shortcomings of traditional systems, this paper proposes an innovative traffic signal optimization solution based on radar detection technology. By deploying the XW/SR215-3200C ground security radar at mid-road sections and combining it with the XW/RB101-3100C portable detection and monitoring system at road endpoints, a comprehensive and high-precision traffic perception network is constructed.
These advanced devices can collect multi-dimensional traffic data in real time, including:
- Real-time changes in pedestrian and motor vehicle flow
- Monitoring of movement speed and dynamic trajectories
- Multi-dimensional traffic information such as spatiotemporal distribution
Practical Value of Intelligent Traffic Management
Leveraging the dynamic monitoring capabilities of the radar system, traffic management departments can achieve:
- Accurate identification of peak and off-peak traffic flow characteristics across different time periods
- Scientific adjustment of signal timing plans
- Optimization of motor vehicle and non-motor vehicle lane layouts
- Precise management of pedestrian-vehicle separation
This intelligent signal control model not only improves road traffic efficiency by over 30% but also significantly enhances the pedestrian crossing experience, providing an innovative technological pathway for building a safe and efficient urban transportation system. The application of radar technology represents the future direction of intelligent traffic management systems and will play an increasingly important role in the development of smart cities.
